Mandatory Watering Restrictions

Customers living within the unincorporated area served by the Jefferson County Water Control & Improvement District No. 10 (the “District”) are asked to conserve water and limit all non-essential outdoor water use. Non-essential outdoor water uses include “washing any motor vehicle, motorbike, boat, trailer or any other vehicle, water used to wash down sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, or other hard surface, flushing of gutters, filling or refilling or adding to any indoor or outdoor swimming or Jacuzzi pool, or use of water in a fountain or a pond for aesthetic or scenic purposes except where necessary to support aquatic life.” Customers shall also repair controllable water leaks within a reasonable time.

The District has joined with other local jurisdictions in enacting mandatory watering restrictions. The Board of Directors of the District has ordered that citizens begin restriction of non-essential water use and has adopted the following schedule limiting outside watering:

Customers with odd numbered addresses may water lawns on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.
Customers with even numbered addresses may water lawns on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

Water restrictions were undertaken as the Lower Neches Valley Authority (“LNVA”), the supplier of the raw water supply to the District, announced a Stage IT-Severe Water Shortage Condition. This condition was triggered due to surface elevation levels within the Sam Rayburn Reservoir. The LNVA has set a goal of achieving a 90% reduction of non-essential water use and a 10% overall water use reduction.

The District will hear comments from residents at the public hearing and may thereafter undertake additional Board action. Customers are hereby notified and shall be subsequently notified that further restrictions may be implemented as drought conditions change that would either reduce or extend additional imposed water restrictions.
